Hello. I’m Mark Kaigwa, and I USED to write the Ukwelii Blog, now I write Mark: My Words (http://www.mark.co.ke) visit that, it’s more updated and more awesome! If you’d like to read a little about me, feel free to read on.
I was born naked over two decades ago and I’ve since developed a liking for clothes. In a word, I’m a storyteller. In a few more, I’m a writer and creative director. On this blog I would share opinions, opportunities and occasionally random posts through my travels and life.
I had the awesome job of writing a videogame and 5 animated short films for Warner Brothers and since then I’ve been even busier experimenting with media, I wrote and directed my first short film Dawa at the Maisha Film Lab in 2009.
I have always live, eat and breathe new media and the past four years I’ve been helping brands across Africa understand mobile and social media. Here’s a snippet from Kenya’s first ever social media interview (with business anchor and reporter Larry Madowo on the Sunrise Live Breakfast show back in 2009)
I do pro speaking and consulting on social media, web, mobile, trends in technology and how African brands can use the web and mobile to retain, acquire and influence their consumers. I’ve spoken at Nomadic Marketing – Southern Africa’s premier digital marketing The Graduate School of Business at The University of Cape Town, The Old Mutual Business School at The Africa Gathering Conference, TEDxNairobi and a bunch of other conference engagements across the pond. You’ll love me, promise. For speaking gigs, please get in touch with Wendy at SpeakToAfrica – wendy[at]speaktoafrica.com
I’m currently creative director of PlugIn Africa. A boutique digital creative+strategy shop doing amazing work for some awesome clients across Africa.
And (wow, don’t I already do enough?) I’m also a curator of African animated films. Most recently for CinemAfrica in Sweden, one of Europe’s most respected African film festivals.
